Automatic Inclusion of Country in New Contact

How can I prevent the automatic inclusion of "United States of America" in a
new contact listing? When I sync Outlook with my Palm PDA after adding a new
contact, it is automatically included in the address when it is copied to the
Palm. It doesn't show in the Contact address, however.
Thanks in advance.

Posting the same question multiple times does not significantly change its
proability of being answered. Post once and wait patiently for an answer.

As far as I know, I only posted once. Pretty snotty response, considering
you can't even supply an answer.

The answer depends on your version, which you did not post.
The country is tied to your regional settings in Control Panel and in
earlier versions there was no way and no need to prevent it from being
inserted into the Contact Record. Instead, you control whether or not it is
inserted into addresses when you insert an address in Word. To do so, you
need to edit the AutoText layout that controls this. See

Russ, Thanks for your help. I'm using Outlook 2000.

I saw the exact same question posted yesterday in this or another Outlok
group and it was worded in almost exactly the same way, so it was not an
unreasonable conclusion that it was you asking the question. At any rate,
whether it was you specifically or not, the question has been asked MANY
times before and ten seconds at http://groups-beta.google.com/ would have
found the question and its answers.

Then there is no way to prevent its insertion in the Contact Record. It will
cause no problem for you when you need to insert the address in Word.
Synchronization issues are another matter entirely. The automatic insertion
of the country in Outlook's contact record has been known behavior for
years. Synchronization software should be able to accommodate that behavior.
