automatic execution of CDs disabled

Hi,

I'm having a small trouble. It started few days ago (before that it was
alright).

Windows (XP SP2) does no longer launch the automatic execution of CD/DVDs.
When I insert a disc, nothing happens.
However I can still manually (from explorer) launch the "automatic execution"

I went to the properties of the CD, into "automatic execution" and there the
options are allright (e.g. CD audio -> open with Media Player)

The content of the CD is correctly recognised by windows since it shows
E:Audio CD in the explorer.

I did no changes recently in my config (but I installed a few old sofwares...)

Any idea to restore the automatic execution ?

Thanks
Alain

Thanks but this was not completelly helpfull because :

I checked the HKLM key CDRom : it is correctly set to 0x00000001 (1)

The HKCU key NoDriveTypeAutoRun is a REG_BINARY type set to ff 00 00 00
(in the documentation the given value is 0x00000095 which means it is a
different data type : the documentation as not been updated for Windows XP)

The HKU key NoDriveTypeAutoRun is set to 0x00000091 (145) which is different
from what the doc says but since it as not been updated for XP I fear that
changing this value won't help

Any other idea ?
Thanks

Thanks, I'll try this.

However I found a new problem that is likely to be related to the first one
(so may be this will give you a hint about where do my problem origins) :

I have another computer (with XP) that I sometimes connect with a Ethernet
cable connection to the one that is having a problem and now the connection
does not work anymore : I cannot see the other computer (both ways).

I don't think the two problems are related.

Hi,

I eventually solve my problems
- the automatic execution of CDs thanks to you and Tweak UI (it changed the
type and value in the register)
- the LAN problem by reconfiguring it from the start. Yet it worked only at
the second trial, I have no idea why !

Yet I had some cold sweat because I also tried to rollback the system to a
previous date and, although I could rollback to a close date (which did not
solve anything) it was impossible to restore the system at a date further
away. (I tried a lot of different dates). The message said the system
recovery was uncomplete therefore no changes where made.
I am worried by the fact that I discovered that this security was not
reliable.

Do you have any idea about what could prevent the system rollback from
operating properly ?

Alain

I'm glad you solved the problems. As far as the System Restore problem it's
been widely reported that trying to go back more than a few days does not
always work reliably.
