Automatic Administrative Shares

Is there any way of turning off the hidden administrative sharing in Win XP
Pro.
If I add a new portable drive, it immediately shows up in the shares as an
automatic hidden share. I didn't intentionally install configure anything
that would
cause it, but there it is. Using dos prompt command mode may allow me some
measure of control, but it is a pain to have to do that every time the
machine is started. I have a laptop with similar XP Pro and it only shows
the OS root drive as a hidden share, even when other portable drives are
attached.

Obviously there is a configuration somewhere that occurred in something but
be jiggered if I can determine what to look for. Using the GUI doe snot allow
control to disable the share, even as Administrator.

Any pointers would be a help. Thanks

Easy way is to remove File and printer sharing from your network setting

seems a bit simplistic, since I previously indicated the laptop with XP Pro
set up on it is set up similarly, yet only shows the admin share for the OS
disk. I also have control over adding or removing shares in that mmc window.
I was looking for a helpful pointer in maybe a new direction I hadn't thought
of.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately the answer was a little
like telling someone whose car was making a noise to take a bus.
