Hello

I would like to ask a question about how to automatically install winXP and
if it's possible (if I install winXP manually) then to install the software I
need automatically.

I have 3 lab rooms with 30 PC each. Since these labs are available for the
public from time to time formatting winXP is needed. In this time I would
like to be able to install the WinXP in all of the 90 PC automatically. If
that's not possible is there any way to automate parts of the installation
process?

Secondly I need to be able to install different sets of programs to each one
of the 3 labs automatically or with automation in parts of the process.

The accounts are handled by samba on Debian Linux but I am able to setup a
Windows server for this specific task.

Thanks in advance
George

If you have the Volume License XP (that does not need activation) then you
can make a clean install (or an install that is needed by all) image that
with one of many imaging software, then just load the image on the computers.

That is depended on the software you need to install (or use different
images from above)

Yea just do a fresh install on one of the computers (this will work ..i
think all pcs need to have same specs just to make it less troublesoom.. )
and install all your applications/updates.. get it running like you want it.
then create an image of the disc with norton ghost or some similar
program...

Also Microsoft provides a utility called sysprep designed to do just what
your looking for..

--- excerpt ---

The Windows XP System Preparation tool enables administrators to prepare
Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 system images as part of an automated
deployment. This tool is an updated version of the Sysprep program that is
included with Windows Server 2003.

You can use the System Preparation tool to perform the following tasks in a
manner that is supported by Microsoft: . Prepare Windows for duplication
from one computer to another computer.
. Change security identifiers (SIDs) and other system and
configuration settings to make them unique.
. Configure user-specific information to be customized by the end-user
when Windows starts the first time.
. Create images of operating systems.
. Duplicate disks.
. Automate the Windows mini-Setup program.
. Perform auditing tasks.

Hope this helps
