AutoFiter Pull Down List

How many categories can we have in autofilter pull down
list? I heard about 1000, is it true. Can we increase more
than 1000 categories in autofilter pull down list.

An AutoFilter list will only show 1000 unique values, and there's no way
to increase that limit. However, there are a few workarounds here:
