Autofilter results

Using Excel 2000, I sometimes use AutoFilter tool. Most of the time I see
text at the left side of the Status Bar saying "x of y (Filtered)" but at
other times I don't get this message. Is there a pattern to this? What
can I do to always see this message?

When your list has many formulas, the Status Bar may show "Filter Mode"
instead of a count of the visible records. You can use the Subtotal
function to count the visible rows.

Vaughan,

I've noticed if I have lots of formulas in the spreadsheet the message
doesn't appear.
Changing "Calculate" mode to Manual in the Options seems to fix it.
