Don

I recently had a hard disk failure and therefore I have a new installation
(Windows XP and Office 2003.)

Previously I could type the first few letters of a person's name directly in
the "To" field, and Outlook would automatically complete the address. This
now happens only sporadically and I usually need to click on the "To" icon
to open the address book.

Any suggestions for how to restore the autofill functionality?

Thanks,

Don

This data is kept in the nickname file -- Outlook.nk2
If you lose it the only way to replace it is to type in addresses.
After you have typed it in once it will be displayed in future.

It is an idea to backup your Outlook.nk2 file.
It resides in c:\documents and settings\username\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

It is a binary file format so you just can't add entries to it.
Owtlook or Ingressor can do it (search google)
