Autocompletion woes

Hi,

I generally like that Outlook attempts to autocomplete the email
address as soon as I type in two letters. But I've always had a few
annoying problems that I know want to resolve.

I'll just ask one question in this post, because there's one aspect
that is particularly frustrating. I recieve a periodic email on which
of my colleague's is cc'ed and his name is misspelled. If I reply to
that email, it is this misspelled version that Outlook remembers.
Subsequently, if I try to email my colleague and Outlook autocompletes
for me, the name is misspelled.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance!

Aaron

use the arrow key and select the bad address when it displays, then press
Del.

You can remove individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by
highlighting the entry when presented in the suggested names list (use your
arrow key to migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before
you tab out of the field. If your autocomplete list contains only a single
entry, use the directions here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;289975
If that article is unavailable, the gist of it is to send a message using a
name or address that will add another entry to that dropdown list. Then you
will have the ability to use the arrow key to select the name you want to
remove. This step is no longer necessary in Outlook 2003 and higher.

We do have Outlook 2003 and the problem keeps coming back.

The delete key is helpful (thank you very much, by the way!!!), but
it's just not a solution. (We are an email-based company and each one
of us sends 100 emails a day.) We would like/need a more robust
solution. Can anything be done with VBA? .Net?

Thanks again!!!

you can use a batch file and delete the NK2 cache file before starting
outlook each day - I know of no automated way to edit it but you might try
ingressor.com.

Then someone keeps misspelling the name and you reply using the misspelled
name, thereby adding it back in the cache. The REAL solution is to stop
using the misspelled address.

I think that this is a flaw in Outlook. I can't ask 3rd party to change
something.

It would be nice if I could tell Outlook to only refer to my address
book when autocompleting. Can I?!!

Thanks!

Perhaps not, but wouldn't it be a courtesy to the other person to inform
them they've misspelled that address? Furthermore, since you know they
misspell it, remove it from the recipient list or correct it before blindly
using it.

Not possible. Autocompletion doesn't reference the Contacts folder(s) in
any way whatsoever.
