Autocomplete only suggesting e-mail addresses

Is there any way to “programme†Outlook so that when it prompts for peoples’ names to autocomplete the “to†and “cc†boxes it ignores phone and fax numbers and only suggests (or inserts if unique) e-mail addresses. If, for instance, I have a unique record for Obadiah Slope and type “Obadiah†in the “to†box, it offers me Obadiah (e-mail) and Obadiah (fax) as choices of addressee when obviously only the e-mail address is correct or appropriate?

You are talking about autoresolution, not autocompletion. The standard
behavior for the Outlook Address book is to offer all electronic addresses
(both fax and e-mail). That behavior cannot be changed. The only way to
prevent the inclusion of fax numbers is to store them in a different field
or to disguise them (e.g., precede them with an alpha character) so that
Outlook won't recognize them as phone numbers.
There are also a number of utilities available that can do this for you
automatically. Some are listed here:

You failed to post your Outlook version. If it is Outlook 2002 or higher,
you can use autocompletion and bypass this autoresolution behavior entirely.

It will. Just be forewarned that autocompletion uses a cache of names from
messages you have already sent, not your Contacts data. So you will need to
populate that cache before you see it working. Once it does, you probably
won't use autoresolution any more.

Very helpful reply. Thank you. Am using Outlook 2000 and contemplating
upgrade so good to know Outlook 2002 does what I want automatically. Thanks
again.
