AutoCalculate doesn't see my data

In some cases, AutoCalculate doesn't seem to see my data - highlighting a
range produces no responce (just as if the cells were empty). The only way
to correct that I have found is to re-type the data (in the same cells), and
this seems to fix the error. Do you know what causes this?
 
Probably the numbers are text ..

Try this ..

Copy an empty cell
Select the "unresponsive" range
Right-click > Paste special > Add > OK

This should "coerce" the text numbers to real numbers
