Auto updates won't run properly

Hi

I'm using Windows XP and since installing the new SP2, the auto updates
feature won't automatically obtain and install updates.

Instead, it loads the Windows Update website, but stops at that point.

In the Security Centre, I've got auto updates set to ON, and the mode set to
Automatic (auto download and install), but it's just not working.

To access updates at present, I have to select them manually from
Microsoft's Windows Update website.

Anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Be patient and give Automatic Updates (AU) time to download/install. You
may be waiting in a very long queue.

Also check your AU settings. Is Windows waiting until 3:00 AM to install
the updates, per the settings?

To assure a clean install, your anti-virus application should be disabled
and all other running processes closed before installing anything, including
Windows Updates.

Sam, just my opinion, but you are better off updating manually anyway.
That way you have control over when and what you are installing beforehand.
