Auto update windows XP problem

Upon trying to update "Security update for Microsoft.NET Framework, version
2.0" I get a notice that the update "failed". Can anyone help and tell me
why this is occuring. As I have "autoupdate" running, I contunuously get
messages to "update" only to have the update fail. Thanks in advance for any
help you can offer.

Try microsoft.public.windowsupdate for more specific help (and include the
exact text of the error you're getting).
