How do I turn off the auto text suggestions. It is beginning to
bother me.

I'm thinking that's autocomplete...

Start IE, click on tools, options, autocomplete : settings, and then untick
the options that you want to enable or disable and clear any forms you want
cleared.

You don't have to start IE, you can use Control Panel | Internet
Options.

That works but then I have to tell 'em how to switch to classic view first
which, I admit, isn't much but (honestly) some folks seem to have issues
finding it - even if you tell 'em it's in the upper right.

I should /probably/ actually tell 'em to start > run > type "inetcpl.cpl"
without the quotes > press enter now that I think about it.

I don't think it matters much. Tell them any or all of the ways to do it.
They all get you to the same place.

Yup though I have a passion for sending command prompts where applicable, it
is projection of my own favorite methods I suppose but it seems to suit most
of the time. Not always will there be a GUI available and so, in my humble
opinion, learning to use things like the task manager to bring up a run
prompt when the explorer shell's crashed or the WinKey + R to bring up a run
prompt and then blindly type something in when the screen's gone all sorts
of crazy for one reason or another are good things to keep stored away in
the mental attic. :) So, normally, I'd tell them to run the .cpl extension
but that's one of the ones where I never do... Odd that. That's one of the
wonderful things about Windows, there are all sorts of different ways to get
where you want to go. :)
