Auto Shutdown

I was wondering if there is a way to fix my computer where it will shut down
at a specific time. I have kids and I don't want them playing on it after I
go to sleep. So I was wondering if there is a way to fix it to make it
automatically shut down, plus a way to stop it from shutting down if I decide
to be on it later than usual. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Usage: shutdown [-i | -l | -s | -r | -a] [-f] [-m \\computername] [-t xx] [-c "comment"] [-d
up:xx:yy]

No args Display this message (same as -?)
-i Display GUI interface, must be the first option
-l Log off (cannot be used with -m option)
-s Shutdown the computer
-r Shutdown and restart the computer
-a Abort a system shutdown
-m \\computername Remote computer to shutdown/restart/abort
-t xx Set timeout for shutdown to xx seconds
-c "comment" Shutdown comment (maximum of 127 characters)
-f Forces running applications to close without warning
-d [p]:xx:yy The reason code for the shutdown
u is the user code
p is a planned shutdown code
xx is the major reason code (positive integer less than 256)
yy is the minor reason code (positive integer less than 65536)

Use a batch file and run it from your task scheduler.

@ECHO OFF
%SystemRoot%\System32\Shutdown.exe -s -f -t 90
CLS
EXIT

To stop it from shutting down, click Start -> Run -> shutdown -a Click OK

Can you put that in simpler terms, I am no computer dummy, but I did not
understand that at all, I am not complaining, believe me, I appreciate any
help I can get, but I am also not real familiar with computermessaging.
Please help!!

@ECHO OFF
%SystemRoot%\System32\Shutdown.exe -s -f -t 90

To stop it from shutting down, click Start -> Run -> shutdown -a Click OK

You can set up this procedure quite easily and its free.

Right click a blank space on your desktop and select - New - Shortcut

In the box that opens up type %windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0

then click next and give the shortcut a name - say "Shutdown"

click Finish

You should then have a shortcut on your desktop called "Shutdown"

Now go to Control Panel - Scheduled Tasks - Add Scheduled Task and
follow the Wizard by first clicking next and then ignore the list of
programs that come up, but use the "Browse" button to go to Desktop
and select the "Shutdown" shortcut.

Then set up the time for the task to be effected. Bingo - Done!!

Quite apart from giving you a schedule for shutdown, you can also
simply shutdown any time you like by clicking on the shortcut rather
than going through the "start/shutdown/shutdown" process.
