I've searched but I can't find a solution to scheduling xp pro to shutdown
when the computer is locked! I know shutdown.exe but it doesn't have this
option I think!

Would I be better to hve my server running windows 2000 server shutdown the
xp machine remotely?

I'm confused. It sounds like you want xp to shut down the moment it's
locked. But, to me, the lock feature is intended to be used when you need to
walk away from the machine for a short time. If you want to shut it down,
just shut it down. When that happens, it is, for all intents and purposed,
locked, since whomever starts it next will have to go through the same
password procedure as if they were reentering from the locked state.

You've misunderstood what I wrote! I don't want xp to shutdown when it locks!
I want to be able to schedule xp to shutdown although the computer is locked!

Hmm. I got about as far as you did - got it to work with scheduler, but not
while locked. Very strange, especially since at least ONE other program
works during the locked state: OE still honors its mail checking schedule.
There has to be a way to do this. I'll ponder it while fishing today.

Anyone know how to solve this?? I've upgraded to SP2 but there is still no
change and I'm unable to schedule my comp. to shutdown when it is locked!

Please help!

A month later and you're still pondering this? I think you had a good idea
in your original message, about having the server shut down the client. I'm
assuming you know whether that's possible or not.

Or, how about just putting the machine into hibernate mode instead of
locking it? That way, you're not using electricity, and if you want to use
it on short notice (as if it were locked), at least it'll come back into
action quicker than if you'd shut down completely.
