Vista with all cureent updates applied.

If I have auto "send/receive" turned on the "some errors have occurred
messages" is displayed, very informative.
If I have "send/receive" at startup turned on the "some errors have
occurred messages" is displayed, very informative.
If I select send/receive all the "some errors have occurred messages" is
displayed, very informative.

If I select "receive all" all messages are downloaded from the ISP.

When send a messsage it is sent to the ISP.

Suggestions how a resolution to this on going problem.

That type of problem is usually caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:

Gary
Windows Live OneCare
Turn the Virus scan off, restarted Windows
One send/receive works, additional attempts to send receive fail.

A previous attempt to convert to Live Mail aborted because contacts would
not import, and all saved messages marked as unread and moved to the inbox
from the previous store folders.
probably around a 100 email address and associated information not
imorted
lots of saved email miss filed

I read the article you suggested, thank you. seems reasonable.
Please help me understand why 2 software packages from Microsoft, Windows
Mail and Windows Live OneCare, do not work together properly.
Why Live Mail does not import data correctly from another Microsoft email
software.

I do appreciate your assistance.
