Dell Inspiron 8000; Sony LION battery;W2K; Outlook 2003 SP3
The battery is installed. AC current is plugged in.
Outlook settings:
Automatically dial during background send/receive
Schedule an automatic send/receive every two minutes when
online
Is there any chance that Outlook will activate the battery
in order to dial out and check for messages when the
computer is turned off?

.
Thanks, Sarge! Any idea what else might be activating my
battery? I have NEVER run on battery power. The only
times that the battery might have been actually used for
power were the couple of times I unplugged myself for a
few seconds.
The battery status light is dark; the icon in the System
Tray shows AC connected; the Power Meter shows "charging";
but the % varies all over the place: 89%; 77%; 94% when I
boot up. Sometimes (I usually forget to check)it
increases while I'm working - up to 99%.

What do you suggest?

It is normal for a laptop's battery to lose (some) charge even when the
computer is completely shut down. It's kind of like a cellular phone. Even
when the phone is powered off, the battery charge still drains, although it
is usually just a small amount, over a period of time. No battery can hold a
100% charge forever, even if the appliance that the battery supplies is not
powered on. When you run your laptop on AC, the battery charges, as you
work. This is all normal activity for your battery.

Hope this helps.
