Hi,

is there a way to automatically turn the pc on? For example I'd like to
schedule a recording from a tv-capture application.
Does the "wake" option imply that the pc should be in standby mode?
Is it possible at all to have the pc automatically turned on (from power-off
mode) at a scheduled day-time ?

Thanks

The PC should also wake from hibernation mode (which is as good as being
fully turned off), as well as standby, at a scheduled time.

Jon: Where would one find out how this scheduling to wake from hibernation
is accomplished?

You could test it yourself with a small experiment....

Schedule any task eg notepad for a time eg 5 minutes hence, using the wizard
(Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Task (> Add
Scheduled Task))
[Press "browse" on the second screen and browse to the program you want to
run]
You will need to enter a password too, so your account will require one, and
you may need to be using an Administrator status account.

When the task is set up > right click it in Scheduled Tasks > Properties
and ensure that
the "Wake the computer to run this task" checkbox is checked on the Settings
tab.

Then pop your computer into hibernation mode (press shift key after Start >
turn off computer)
[You enable hibernation mode via Control Panel > Power Options]

Wait till the scheduled time and then see if the task runs.
