auto hyperlinks

Something strange happened to my word app. I use to be able to type a
internet address in a doc and it would underline and when you clicked it, it
went to the site. Now when I type a internet address, it defaults to this:
{HYPERLINK "http://sitename.com}
(with sitename being just a placeholder). Can anyone tell me how to get
back to the good old underlined version?!

Press Alt+F9 to toggle between field codes (what you're seeing now) and
field results (the hyperlink you expect).

that is the exact same problem that I am having. It just started a week or
so ago and I can't figure out how to get it to go "back to normal"
