I have this little annoying problem with Word 2002. When I want to change the format of one word, or one line, when I highlight and change it to bold, or centre, or a different font, etc., the entire document changes. I then have to click the undo and it undoes everything except the one thing I tried to change. It gets very annoying! How do I make it stop doing this? When I highlight a word or sentance, I expect only that to be changed, not the whole document

Thanks

Hi Nanci,

Format > Styles and Formatting > Select the "Normal" style;
Choose to modify it (Either by clicking on the "Modify" button at the bottom
of the dialog, or by right-clicking on its name and choosing "Modify" in the
menu that pops up in the Style pane);
Uncheck "Automatically Update";
Click "OK";
Close the dialog or the pane;
Problem solved!

Click the "Format" menu, select "Styles and Formatting", click the Normal
style dropdown arrow and click "Modify". Uncheck the "Automatically
update..." checkbox. Since your document is probably using the "normal"
style throughout, and this check box is checked, it will make changes to all
instances of this style.

Another good reason to start using Styles in Word instead of the default
"Normal" style for everything.

Thank you for all the help. I have corrected the options in the format/styles and it worked like a charm. :
