Hi Paul,
I'm going to guess that you are talking about the list of words shown when you click on
Tools > AutoCorrect Options... Is this correct? If so, this list is not stored within the
database. It appears to be stored in a file with the .acl file extension.
On my PC, this list is stored in two different files, depending on the version of Office that I
am using.
For Office 97
C:\WINNT\MSO97.acl
For Office 2000 and XP (2002)
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\MSO1033.acl
Notice that "Administrator" is included in the path above. This apparently means that each
profile on a PC can have its own autocorrect list (acl) file for Office 2000 and 2002. Also, I
believe the 1033 part of the filename refers to English. I found other MSOxxxx.acl files on my
hard drive, including MSO1036.acl and MSO1043.acl. I'm going to guess that these are for other
languages. I also see several folders with different names, which each contain a .acl file.
These include:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2000\Office\1033\MSO.acl
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2000\Office\1034\MSO.acl
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2000\Office\1036\MSO.acl
and
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office XP\Office10\1033\MSO.acl
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office XP\Office10\1036\MSO.acl
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office XP\Office10\3082\MSO.acl
However, none of these files included today's date in the Modified column, when I performed a
search for *.acl with View > Details selected as my default view. My suggestion is to add a
dummy word to the beginning of the list, such as 123456, perform a search for *.acl, and verify
that the date modified is today's date.
Notes:
A search for "Containing Text" = 123456, or whatever dummy word that you add, will fail to
reveal the correct file.
If you cannot find any recently modified *.acl files, then try searching for *.ops instead. This
KB article seems to imply that either file type may be used, although I cannot verify that at
this time:
OFF2000: AutoCorrect List May Not Be Migrated from Earlier Version of Office

I do not have Office 2003 yet, so I cannot advise you as to which file contains the autocorrect
list for this latest version of Office.
Finally, if you want to back up the custom dictionary used by some Office programs, such as MS
Word, look for a file named Custom.dic. In Word 2002, click on Tools > Options..., select the
Spelling & Grammar tab, and click on the Custom Dictionaries... button to reveal the path and
filename. Same directions for Access 2002, except that the tab is named "Spelling" instead of
"Spelling and Grammar". Interestingly, Word provides an easy way to edit the Custom.dic file
(for example, to remove a word that you accidentally add) whereas Access does not.

I have a couple databases that use the same autocorrect options, is there a way to copy one list
over to another database. Any help is appreciated, Thanks Paul
