In Outlook 2000 you were able to type partial names and Outlook would
resolve this to the full name in the GAL.

Example: "Jo Smi" or "Smi Jo" would resolve to "Smith, John" in the
GAL once you hit the tab key to move out of the "TO:" field.

This was an AMAZING feater as our companies GAL has 25,000 names and
this ment that you didn't have to know how to spell the persons entire
name to find them and it was also a big time save if you had to sent
to multiple people.

This feater seems to have been removed or disabled in Outlook 2003.
I've tried for days and read many news posting on this and no one has
come up with an answer.

I know I going to get a plethora of people trying to tell me about the
diffence between "Autocomplete", "name caching", and" Suggest Names"
so let me put it this way PLEASE DON'T I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE....

Let me put this in very simple term so I don't have to deal with these
people..."IS THERE A WAY TO GET OUTLOOK 2003 TO RESOLVE A PARTIALY
TYPED NAME TO A FULL NAME IN THE GLOBAL ADDRESS BOOK LIKE OUTLOOK 2000
DID?"

I don't want it to suggest name, or only give me the names of people
the I have already sent to ALL I WANT IS IT TO WORK THE WAY IT DID IN
OUTLOOK 2000 because it was one of the best featers that Microsoft has
put it Outlook 2000 and now it seems as if it's gone!

Thanks for you time.

Not at all. It still works just fine. Tools>Options>E-mail
Options>Advanced E-mail Options. Check "Automatic name checking". If this
option is selected, then tabbing out of the field should produce the same
behavior you saw in OL 2000. CTRL-K or the Check Names button will also
work.

Nope I tried that and it does not work...let me clarify...

I want it to resolve Smith, John by typing "Smi Jo" to a name in the
GAL that I have never sent an e-mail to before.

The method you suggested will only work if I have sent an e-mail to
the user before. Outlook 2000 DID NOT require you to send an e-mail
first. Outlook 2003 uses some wacky name caching thingy that doesn't
have the functionality of the way OL2000 had.

HELP HELP HELP this is driving me nuts.....

You did not include the rest of this post. We have no idea to what you are
referring.
You are not talking about autocompletion.
What you need to do is enable autoresolution (Automatic Name checking) and
disable autocompletion ("Suggest Names").

I just tried it. CTRL-K works just fine for that.

You're wrong.
Outlook 2000 DID NOT require you to send an e-mail
first. Outlook 2003 uses some wacky name caching thingy that doesn't
have the functionality of the way OL2000 had.

The "wacky name caching" you describe is in addition to, not in place of,
autoresolution.

You might need to make sure that the GAL is among the lists that Outlook
uses for autoresolution -- Tools | Address Book, then Tools | Options.
