I recently started using Outlook rather than Outlook
Express. Although I've checked the "suggest completion of
names" in the Advanced E-Mail Options (in Tools), it still
doesn't automatically complete someone's name in the "To"
box after I start typing. I have to fill in the name in
full each time. Not a biggie, but annoying. Anyone know
how to fix?
Thanks.

I dont know if this will help but I thought I would reply
while waiting for an answer to my question. Go to tools
then open address book and the go to tools in the address
book and go to options and see what you have for a
default It should probably say contacts in all three
windows so it can point to your address/contact list,
because it sound like it just can't find it.

Autocompletion uses a cache derived from messages you have sent. I suspect
you have not yet populated that cache.
Just be patient and wait.

Thanks, Mark. It already does say Contacts in all three
windows! Any other ideas? I appreciate your help--
Gabrielle

Thanks, Russ. I had imported my whole address book from
Outlook Express--does this mean I have to send an e-mail
to each contact in order for it to be registered in
Outlook? AIIIEEEEE. Actually, come to think of it, it
isn't even completing the addresses for people I have
already e-mailed to. Dang. Any other ideas? Thanks--

Other ideas? You mean ideas for how the software should behave other than
the way it was designed?
No.
Autocompletion will only use addresses to which you have already sent
messages.
If you want to use the information in your Contacts Folder instead, use
autoresolution, not autocompletion.

Okay! I'll bite. How do I use auto resolution? I can't
find it on any Tools menu!
Thanks for your help--

"Automatic Name Checking"
Turn off "Suggest Names" if you don't want to use autocompletion.
There is a comparison of the two features here:
