you kinda answered your own question

thats the usual cause of this problem
some codecs interfere with each other
try uninstalling all codecs you have on ya pc such as
divx ffdshow xvid etc etc etc
then google for and download ffdshow codec only
install this and all should be well
ffdshow is a all in one codec you dont need any others
except in rare circumstances
