I installed Chessmaster 9000 and afterward my computer
has lost the ability to output any sound. The audiosrv
service errors out with an event ID of 7023 - "The
Windows Audio service terminated with the following
error: The specified module could not be found. "

I do not have a separate sound card - just the sound
capability that came with the motherboard. The game
apparently was expecting a soundblaster or something like
that. When I try to start the game, it gives me an error
that it could not communicate with the sound device and
exits. I have since uninstalled the game, but no effect.

I am running XP Pro. Any advice on how to fix this will
be much appreciated.

Navigate to device manager click on audio devices and reinstall the drivers,
there should be a yellow question mark on audio devices.

WXP may crash video and it seems mobo sound are in the Windows kernal so
crashes with them can also bring down WXP amazing but true.
