Installed XP 2003 server enterprise, get error when try to
play sound files of any kind (mp3, wave, etc..). So if I
try to go to: Start, Programs, Accessories, Entertainment,
and open Volume Control, I get this message.

Error Message: There are no active mixer devices
available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel,
click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add
hardware. The program will no close.

First, There is no such thing as XP 2003 server.

I'm assuming that you have Windows 2003 Enterprise Server. A lot of "inbox" drivers
that are in XP may not be in WS2k3. Check to see if your sound card drivers are
installed. Remember, this is server OS. Sound drivers are not a priority.

Goto the sound device manufacturer and get the latest drivers.

If they do not have WS2k3 specific drivers, you MAY be able to use XP version of
their drivers, but all disclaimers on if they will work and if they may crash the
system when you try to apply them.

Good Luck!

Have you started the Windows Audio Services. If you are running Windows
2003 Server, the audio services are DISABLED by default. It is a server
after all... it's not designed for playing music on, for surfing from or
general desktop use. It's a Server. It sits in the corner and does what
Servers are supposed to do. Which is hopefully running 24/7, and being the
most stable PC in the network.
