recently wondows xp has prevented my audio device
driver; 'yamaha - ac - xg wdm' from loading as it will
cause windows to become unstable. this started
immediately after downloading an update -- expresspack 1.
there is no sound on my computer and i'm wondering how i
can change this -- should i attempt to remove the
expresspack or should i find a new, more compatible audio
driver? what driver would be best? thanks for any help
and information.

The best driver for your sound card would be the one provided by the
manufacturer of your sound card. If I'm not mistaken, Yamaha does not
manufacture sound cards (except for VERY HIGH END cards), they
manufacture chipsets. Maybe you could tell us the sound card
manufacturer and model number? It would really help us in helping you
resolve your problem.

Perhaps if you "rolled back" the driver, your card would begin
reproducing sounds properly.

There is an updated WDM driver from Yamaha. Start at www.yamaha.com.
There have been known stability issues with XP in some versions of the
drivers supplied by PC companies. Yamaha has some disclaimer saying
almost the opposite on their site, but I dl'd it and it worked when the
existing driver did not.
