Sorry for the cross posting but I need an answer on this one fairly quickly.

Am looking at migrating an NT workstation setup over to XP. Just done my
first box as a standalone PC, not connected to the network.

After XP SP1 has fired up ALL the folders attributes are set to read only. I
can't change this. If you uncheck the read only and apply the changes it
goes through the motions but the folder attributes get changed back
immediately to read only.

This is going to cause me a huge problem as I need to get the system32\spool
folder NOT to be read only because of how one of our PDF writers works.

What gives?? There are not policies in place. This is a standalone, fresh
install.

Any help/info greatly appreciated.

TIA

Thanks for the reply. Taking ownership of the folder was not quite what I
was getting at. It's the attributes that are throwing me. However after
looking at the linkyou sent me this has thrown up another problem. Under
taking ownership it states to use the security tab under the properties
pages. The security tab is not visible? on any of the folders. I'm using a
local administrator account also.
