This can be an indication that your drive is failing. Two things. One, I
would immediately backup any valuable files or data you may have before it's
too late. Two, I would run chkdsk (check disk) on your drive to see if it
detects errors. This may not prove to be a drive failure but the liklyhood
is pretty great. Fortunately with the Smart Drive feature, you get an early
indication before the drive is dead.

To check your disk for errors, click on My Computer and right click on your
drive and select Properties. Click on the Tools tab and then on Error
Checking, click on Check Now.

Also, forgot to mention. If your drive is failing, and it is still under
warranty, you can get a free replacement. If the computer manufacturer's
warranty has expired, there is a good chance that it is still warranted by
the drive manufacturer. Mailing back to the drive manufacturer and waiting
for a return can take several weeks, but some will let you pay an express
charge to get it overnighted. Express service can require a deposit until
they receive and verify the drive failure.
