You'd be so proud of me - I'm actually using Styles in a manual I'm working
on. Okay, do I'm finished entering the text and have been somewhat forced to
use styles because there are multiple TOCs and I'm trying to do it right.
But the point is that I *am* using them. I've had to create some styles to
suit my needs but it's not that bad. Maybe I'll have to use them more
often...

You've been a big help to me and for that I'm grateful. :-)

Well, I'm glad you think I've been helpful. You do know how to do the
multiple TOCs (including partials), right?

Well, I've been calling out a different style for the various TOCs. Is that
how? (Probably not because I'm learning as I go along.)

You might want to have a look at the articles at
http://www.ShaunaKelly.com/word/toc/CreateATOC.html (for the basics, which I
imagine you already know) and, for the refinements,
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TOCSwitches.htm and
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/TOCTips.htm.

The basic principle is that you have only nine levels of TOC styles, and
they have to be the same throughout all the TOCs in the document, but you
can mix and match them with heading levels, and you can define which heading
levels you want in the TOC (they don't have to match the TOC style levels),
and you can format several TOC styles the same, to create the impression of
headings at the same level even though they're different (chapters and
appendixes, for example). You can also create a Table of Figures based on a
single style or caption type.

This manual is kind of funky with the various sections (I ended up with 28
because of the goofy page numbering setups.) I've learned a lot of
formatting with this document but I have so much more that I need to figure
out. I'm proud of the progress I've made and if I can figure out how to get
my Vivio diagrams converted to some sort of a graphic that won't get fuzzy
when I print the pages in the manual, I'll be happy. I have some ideas I
want to try but I need to use my computer at home (I am limited by the
availability of graphics editors here at work). Before I did that, I figured
I'd finish off the text. As of now I'm at 208 pages and I think I have all
of the sections completed. OY VEY!!

I don't use Visio, so I'm only vaguely aware of the issues of bringing Visio
diagrams into Word (and I know there are some). You may have to do what I do
to get decent-looking maps out of MapPoint: print to SnagIt, setting the
quality as high as possible, and save as a GIF (or other suitable format),
then insert in Word as a picture.

I may have to try that way around it. The problem is the diagrams are drawn
about 11 x 17 and I need to get them down to fit (rotated) on an 8½ x 11
page. Using SnagIt might get me around the rotation problem.

Thank you - you've given me some ideas about how to handle this. :-)
