Attempting to repair Windows

Having problems with the spooler subsystem error and the Microsoft solution
only works briefly, so I thought repairing Windows XP Pro might do the trick.
However, whether I try to repair or install, it says it can't find a hard
drive and that's as far as I get. I have uninstalled all printers, physically
disconnected them, reinstalled, updated, etc. until I'm blue in the face and
red under the collar (feeling so patriotic here...). Any suggestions? The
system is a Dell Dimension 9100 which came with XP Home and I upgraded it to
XP Pro also thinking that would take care of its upset, but no luck.

Thanks,

Deb

Hey Deb,

I bet your computer has Serial ATA and needs to load the drivers during the
xp setup process. When you first boot from your cd you need to tap f6 at the
start. When it tells you to you are going to need a floppy disk with the
drivers for your S ATA. You need to get them from Dell. If you need any
more help holler back.

Good Luck,

Dell usually creates a hidden partition used by their support people. This
could be causing your problem with finding the Hard drive.
When you installed XP Pro did you an upgrade or clean install?
Also did you contact Dell support on the spooler issue?

I've slept since I did the upgrade, but I think I just upgraded and did not
do a clean install. And no, I didn't contact Dell about the spooler issue
since I'd found the "how-to correct the problem" on the Microsoft site.
Generally when I contact PC manufacturers, it ends up being a "pointing
fingers at the other guy" thing - they'd say it was an HP problem and HP
would say it's a Dell problem and back and forth until I'd want to smack some
sense into all of them. I've been down that road too many times!

Thanks,

Deb
