attempting to delete e mail

My mail will not go to the 'deleted items' folder when I
attempt to delete.
If I 'drag and drop' I get a message telling me that the
message could not be removed as there is 'not enough
memory'.
The deleted items folder is in fact empty.
This was fine up until a few days ago.
Please can someone help??

Try compacting your PST.
