I am having difficulty opening attachments. When I look
at the properties relating to the e-mail, the following
message appears - "OE removed access to the following
uinsafe attachments in your e-mail:"
I know that some of these are definitely from reliable
sources. Any ideas,please?

Go into outlook (express), to options, security, and check or uncheck "Do
not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a
virus". This, and/or using good antivirus that scans emails would be a
good idea.
Also, try using linux: no problems with viruses yet, because of the
higher-security file system.

This happens to me, too. When it does and I know the
source and know it's okay, I just click on the "Forward"
button and then can open it.

If anyone knows a better way, I'd like to know, too.

I've done what you suggested above, but I cannot check or
uncheck the box. All the text including the box is gray
font and will not allow me to do anything to the box. Any
help would be appreciated.

Greetings --

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect you. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment actually
contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of those file
types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option, assuming
you trust the source, of course. The wiser course of action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:

I think you have to be the admin to override it sometimes, but not always.

@corp.supernews.com:

Really?? Are you aware that the frist computer virus was written for
Unix.

Also, From Technet.com:
http://www.zdnet.com.au/techcentre/antivirus/features/story/0,2000045009,
20275738,00.htm

" Aside from Klez, other major threats affecting Linux/Unix platforms
are the Lion.worm, the OSF.8759 virus, Slapper, Scalper, Linux.Svat, and
the BoxPoison virus—just to mention a few. "

People that think Linux is more secure, are just deluding themselves.
