Mike

I get a message that "this file could not be found" when i try to open an
attachment from a sender. However, if i save it to my documents it will then
open. Does anyone know how i can rectify this as it has only recently started
to happen. Thanks

I had a similar problem, the "Command can not execute" or something similar.
I uninstalled Norton Internet Security (with considerable trouble, because
the thing was corrupted" and now IT WORKS! Suddenly I can open attachments by
clicking on them! Next I will reinstall Norton and see if things change
olle

Thanks Olle.

I use AVG security. Do you suspect that this could also be the case for the
corruption?

Norton is a virus by itself. It will pop[ up at any time or can be dormant for weeks
on end before it shows it's face again,

All MVP's and most computer knowledgeable people will tell you the same

Hi Peter... I don't have Norton. I have AVG. Could this be causing it or
likely to be something else..

One way around this is to right click on the attachment (in the attachment
line), click on 'save as' and then open the attachment from where you have
saved it to. This works for me everytime this happens, although it is not
very often.

Hi Sherbert

Yes i can do that but it is just a pain. It has only just started doing it
aswell. It had been working perfectly for 18 months.

[x-post to IE General]

Have you installed IE8?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
IE8?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

Is "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Vista (KB969897)"
listed in Installed Updates?

Just asking for now!! Do NOT use such a Restore Point yet!! => Do you have
an available Restore Point which predates the install of IE8?

If you do the following, does the behavior persist?

=> Start | All Programs | right-click on Windows Mail | select Properties
| Start in <=delete the value here (leaving it empty/blank) & OK your way
out.

NB: Uninstalling IE8 (cf. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700) should
resolve the behavior but you should not have encountered it in the first
place if IE8 was installed properly; cf.
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...er.general/browse_frm/thread/a17d79493eac253d

Yes, it's something else.
The 'file can't be found' error is a definite symptom of the IE8 bug.
One workaround is to uninstall IE8, which reverts you back to IE7.
If you decide to uninstall IE8 instead, see:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700

One other alternative is to upgrade your email program to Windows
