Fred

I have just begun using Outlook 2000 and for some reason
files will attach (and show an icon in the email bodyt)
but do not accompany the email when sent to recipient/s.

It sounds like you're using Rich Text format to send the messages. Rich
Text format puts the attachment icon in the message body instead of in its
own pane, and since Rich Text is a proprietary format in Outlook, most other
e-mail programs (including Outlook Express) can't process it. So, to avoid
both of these, send your messages in HTML or Plain Text format, instead of
Rich Text.
