Hello,

When I save an attachment to disk from Outlook 2000 SP-3, it ends up
read-only. This drives me NUTS, because I almost always have to edit such
files. Is there a way to change this behavior? I really don't understand
why it is this way in the first place...

Cheers,

If you save attachments from mail in the preview pane, it will always be
read-only. Open the message and then use the Save Attachments option to
save them.
