attachments (either .doc or .pdf) arrive as winmail.dat

Using Outlook 2000SR-1, attachments sent are frequently not recieved by
receipients. Instead their attachment reads winmail.dat which they cannot
open. This mainly happens with .doc files but I believe it has also happened
with .pdf

Presumably these recipients are NOT using Outlook? Change the mail
format from RTF (default setting) to either HTML or plain text.
