When replying to a message with an attached file, does the
attachment return to the original sender of the file.
Also when cc: a message with an attachment to multiple
people does the attachment return to the original sender.
If so, on either of the instances, how do we prevent the
attachment from returning to the orignal sender.

Thank you in advance.

No, the reply doesn't return the file, by design, because the sender already
has it. If you send a message with an attachment, all recipients get the
file.

Thank you for your reply but 1 more question, is the
attachment really part of the message or is a shortcut
created to the attached file so that you can read it when
you double-click the attachment? I cannot find any info
in the Knowledgebase.

The attachment is part of the message. When you double click the
attachment, the message is decoded and a temporary file is created and
opened with the application registered to handle that type of file.
