Mark, this is the reply you gave me to the windows explorer browsing
after problems browsing after SP2 update:
Go to Start/Run, and type: REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL Then open IE, Tools menu, Options, Program Tab, and click the "Reset Web Settings" button.

Well, I am not sure if what you are suggesting is a fix for internet
explorer or windows explorer?? my problem is with windows explorer,
my IE works just fine

I typed what you said in the run command line, i would imagine I must
"run" this, it comes up saying it cant find REGSRV32 and I still have
the problem. I also reste web settings too, makes no difference.

I am taking SP2 out for the fouth time now, but would like to get it
back in sometime. Can you be more definitive for this blonde??

TIA

Sheila

REGSRV32 is a typo, its REGSVR32

If browsing is slow, something is waiting to 'time out', like a network
drive (with a password on a win9x system in the LAN) (and many other
potential time outs)

Yours is a new install, so I doubt it is corrupt files. Perhaps you are not
mentioning third party firewalls, etc.

If you open the Event Viewer in Administrative Tools, you might see an event
saying what is timing out, as it happens to you.

I dont have any network drives on this PC, and nothing has a p[assword
on it as I am the only person using this system. I also dont actually
have a firewall at all on here. I cant find my administrative tools
after putting sp2 on and even after taking it off, they have
disappeared to god knows where. So I cant view an event log.

confused here still. I must confess I did type the command wrong and
will now spend the time to reinstall sp2 (attempt number 5) and see if
it works again. Please watch this space, hopefully I will add to this
some time today.

Thanks

OK< now its even worse. After doing what you suggested, I lost ALL my
icons from my taskbar. YES i use windows blinds and have a theme
using this, so i suppose now that sp2 doesnt support windows blinds as
well as many many other programs. It STILL takes ages to get aything
once I click on my computer ands also i have noticed it takes forever
too if i want to browse to save a file downloaded etc.

I wasnt very hopeful that sp2 would work even after doing what you
asked, but, just to be sure I did so, now its coming out again and i
doubt i will ever put it back now, 5 times is enough for anyone.

thanks anyway

Now isnt that weird. As soon as I close windows explorer, I get all
my icons back, no problem. I can browse my network without any
problem (in windows explorer), even though I dont have anything
connected to my network apart from myself, but still cant browse my
own computer/hard drives etc.

Go figure.

Change Theme to Windows Classic, or Windows XP, and it should straighten it
out. Display app in control panel, Theme tab.

Think i wouild rather do without sp2 anyway, it doesnt seem to offer
me more than I have already got.

Thanks anyway.
