with my word 2000 version i had this nifty thing that automatically changed the text format into my default font. all i
had to do was rename the file to *.doc.....now...in 2003...this dont work anymore...at least not the way i did it in the
2000v..so..any hope for this....i have a macro that does it...is there a way to autorun a macro in such a scenario?

TIA

Word now formats plain text files with plain text paragraph style as a
reflection that text files cannot use font formatting. Select the document
(CTRL+A) then apply the normal paragraph style (should be ALT+N) then save
as DOC.
You could autorun the macro, but it would then run an *all* new documents
which is not a good plan.
