From my research the x600 will beat the 9600 in most cases
there aren't any direct comparisons as the x600 series of cards was short
lived and an agp version was never made, as far as i know. but i'm pretty
sure that the x600 is better, as long as both cards are 128bit.
the toms hardware articles makes them look exactly the same
325 core and 400 memory - 128 bit memory bandwidth and 4 pipelines.
since the agp ports bandwidth isnt being fully used now theres no need
to worry about pci-e. when new tech comes out it seems to take at least 2
years
before its really being used by all games - mmx, dvd, shaders etc ..
an x300 is utter crap, my mates got one on his dell, rubbish. Its the pci-E
version of a 9200, We tried playing delta force 2(1999) and it wouldn't play
it smoothly, not exactly a gamers card
Yes, the 9600 and x600 are the same card, one for AGP and the other for PCIe. They
benchmark the same.
The x300 is not a bad card, it is just out of its depth trying to play the latest
generation of games. I would look to the 9600 or x600 series as the minimum acceptable
card for DX9 games. The same for any rig you plan on keeping when the Longhorn OS hits the
market, because its Avalon video interface will require DX9 conformity if you want all the
bells and whistles to work. 256 megs of RAM is probably a good idea too, considering the
small difference in price from 128 (about $20 or so).
