Hi

My motherboard is an Intel 845GRG which supports up to ATA100 harddrives.

These might seem a stupid question, but would an ATA133 drive work or not,
assuming it wouldn't use its advanced features?

Thanks.

Sure it will work. It will be limited to the maximum limit that your
motherboard supports. The same applies to ram. A good idea is to buy a
higher limit that will work better if you upgrade the motherboard. Jym

You could buy an ATA/133 IDE controller PCI card. Your motherboard may
support booting from an additional IDE device

An ATA 133 drive will work on an ATA 100 motherboard, and you probably won't
notice a difference in performance. ATA 133 gives you extra speed only in
short bursts, during periods of high disk demand. Most of the time, it's
pretty much of a wash.

Before I learned this, I installed a 133 PCI controller card to go with my
new hard drive. It was a disaster. The entire computer ran slower. It
appears that routing all that data through the PCI slot clogged up the
entire data bus. I went back to using the regular onboard ATA slot, and
everything went fine.
