Yikes, Bloomberg is reporting this morning that AT&T is considering
jumping ship - this will be the largest installed IT loss to Linux
ever for Microsoft - nearly 5X larger then when the city of Munich
decided to switch in June.

Another note in the article I wasnt aware of:

"The pressure from Linux comes as Redmond, Washington-based
Microsoft's sales growth declines to its lowest rate ever. The company
in July predicted growth of as little as 4.3 percent this year, down
from an average 38 percent a year in the 1990s."

The good part for users is that this translates into pricing pressure
which will undoubtably reduce the cost of Windows, as Microsoft makes
80% profit on each sale of a Windows PC, says one securities analyst.

But he also said he might not, the decision is not until the end of 2005.

I'll bet the analyst didn't say "undoubtably."

My wife signed up with ATT cell phone service. Salesman said and wrote
in the contact
no roaming charges for the plan she signed up with. You can guess what
happened. Also, she got phones for our two kids. The biggest button on
the phone is labled M or something, you hit it and get a $5 charge.
Seems you have to cross out all the fine
print in contracts these days :)

Um, yeah, thats why the word 'considering' - but thanks for clarifying
for those who dont have a dictionary.

Normally it wouldnt be much of a hullaballo, but recently we have seen
a streak of organizations actually carrying out large-scale Linux
infrastructure conversions from Windows, rather then just
threatening...
