ASUS Destroys CD-R Speed Barrier

Hot Hardware has a review online of the new Asus 52x24x52 CD-RW drive. I never thought I'd see the day where we'd be burning at the same speed as reading. This drive can burn a 650mb cd in 2:30. Now they only have rewritable speeds to work on, but those are slowly improving as well.

Speed Demons

Installed on a friends computer a Plextor 48x24x48 a couple of days back. It sure was blazing fast and now we have Asus with an even faster drive. By the way the speed of burning depends on the quality of the media, so, using low quality media will not yield the same high speed. In order to write at the highest speed one needs to use very high quality media like the ones produced by either Taiyo Yudan or TDK.
