Microsoft folks,

Is there some good reason that XP Home edition does not have ASR
capability?

Is there any patch/update available that would add the ASR
feature?

Thanks again for listening to my rants about backups and such.

This behavior can occur because ASR is not supported in
Windows XP Home Edition. However, Windows XP Home
Edition users can access the ASR Wizard if they install the
Ntbackup program from the Valueadd folder on the Windows
XP Home Edition CD-ROM.

I am not an MS person, but I will take a poke at your two ??s

Why was ASR excluded from Home edition?
Probably because ASR is most useful in a multi-machine
server environment where the ASR backs up to a remote,
and this is not the 80% target market for Home edition.
Also, they had to come up with some things to leave out in
order to justify the two editions and their price difference.

Is there a way to get ASR ?
Obviously the supported way is to upgrade to Pro edition.

If I install Ntbackup from the XP Home CD-ROM, (assuming I can
successfully back up to another hard drive) will I then be
able to use it to RECOVER the system?
