I am using XP pro.
When I go to control panel/User Accounts there is a user
named: ASP.NET MACHINEA...
I have no clue where this came from.
Have I been hacked at some point and someone has set up a
user account, or is there a valid application that may
have created this.
If it is part of a valid account what is it for?

I noticed the same thing (I deleted it) around the same time that IE6
stopped opening asp webpages that I try to navigate to. I don't know
whether this is a coincidence or not, but I'm worried to that I've been
hacked - yet Ad-aware says the machine is clean.

This is because you have done the updating. You now have
the .NET framework program installed on your computer.
This will allow you to access and see sites that use
the .NET. This is the wave of the future so get used to
it. You can of course delete it but why bother? In the
future the vast majority of sites will be using the .NET
Framework. For a more thorough explanation of .NET you can
do an internet search or go to www.microsoft.com and do a
search for it. Good luck.
