asp.net 2.0 issue

Hi all, I am seeing a very serious recurring problem that occurs whenever I
update my asp.net 2.0 website. Everytime I copy new files over, I have to
re-start the iis service by issuing an iisreset command and sometimes I have
to delete the temporary asp.net files. If I dont do that, I get the
following error almost every time:-

Server Error in '/' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unable to cast object of type 'ASP.masters_sitemaster_master' to type
'ASP.masters_sitemaster_master'.
This happens on several websites, not just one... Any ideas?

There are (unfortunately) about six different ways to deploy or update an
ASP.NET 2.0 website. Your post doesn't specify what exacly you are doing
although it sounds like you are using the "Make this precompiled website
Updateable" option, or you are just "copying" whatever you want from point A
to point B.
Try using Precompiled with Fixed naming on the assemblies; use the Publish
option to a local folder, and then copy the contents of that local folder
over to the site.
That's the most reliable IMHO. You can also use the new Web Application
project option (separate download) and it's much more like VS.NET 2003.

I code in VS 2005 and when I am ready to deploy, I simply copy the .aspx &
dlls from my local hdd over to the server's folder. I have been doing that
since a long time with the 1.1 framework and have never had a problem...
What changed in 2.0?
