Asking to save even though nothing changed

I have a few documents that when opened and then closed
without making any changes ask "Do you want to savew
changes". I haven't changed anything.
If I say yes and save them, when I open them and close
them again they ask me again to "save changes".

Does anyone have any ideas what I should be looking for?

What version of Word? If Word 2002 or 2003, see "WD2002: You Are Prompted to
Save Changes When You Close a Document Even Though You Have Made No Changes"

If you've used "dates" or "time" related stamping in the headers or footers, you'll get this for sure, because it's an automatic action

Anywhere you've used a timestamp related variable in the document, it'll do the same thing.

I saved to an rtf and that worked. The origin of my offending doc was a notepad file and had no timestamps of which I am aware.
