ask a question of the Database file Format

i like to know the length of the database (mdb files) head.

there are not full record data in a mdb files. jet db engine have some bytes
in the head of mdb. the bytes mark mdb version and passwords and a lot of
things.
how many bytes in the head of the MDB files.

i know format of 97 and 2000 mdb file is different, but i like to know all of
these.

i am chinese, my english is so bad,who can understand me? if you can
understand please answer my question. thank you !

It may be technology, but deciphering the format of an mdb file is reverse
engineering, which I believe is illegal according to the EULA.

MDB Tools is a set of libraries and utilities to facilitate exporting
data from MS Access databases (mdb files) without using the Microsoft
DLLs. In other words they are reverse engineering the layout of the
MDB file. http://mdbtools.sourceforge.net/

I've got a question also on .mdb file i'm trying to download an assignment from an online course; ERROR MSG 3343 UNRECOGNIZED DATABASE FORMAT 'A:\Contacts-A2.mdb'. any ideas? i think my professor needs to to something in her end. We're working w/ "Distant Learning", WebCT. Anyone heard of this? It's new to me also. We're in ACCESS now.

What version of Access do you have? What version of Access is your professor
using? If your professor is using Access 2002 or Access 2003, in what
version's format have they stored the database?

Each version of Access has its own file format. By default, Access 2002 and
2003 both use Access 2000 format, but Access 2002 has the ability to store
in Access 2002 format, and Access 2003 can store in Access 2002 or Access
2003 format.

OK,i am understand.

But if i don't know about this, other people can crack my mdb file.
my data is not safe.
how can i do? send them a message about EULA?

I fail to see why you think knowing "the length of the database (mdb files)
head" will prevent others from cracking your file.

As long as you're using a file-based database system (such as Access, dBase,
Paradox, etc.), you run the risk of people being able to crack your
database.

here is a idea

i can change head bytes of the mdb file ,then format is error.

only i know how to resume the mdb file.

When i use it ,i can write a vba program resume it.

other people only know the mdb file is a "unknown format" mdb file

I don't believe you'll be able to do anything like that with Access, even if
you knew the file format. Making changes to the file like you're describing
has been known to corrupt the database irrecoverably.
