Need help with Outlook 2002. I'm unable to reset macro security settings in
OL2002 at all (currently set to Low). When I click on Tools/Macro and then
try to select ANY of the choices (Macros, Security, Visual Basic
Editor)...nothing happens. No dialog box, no error, nothing. This just
started in the last week. I'm not running Exchange, I'm using XP Pro, and
all other funtions of Outlook are OK. I am not having this problem in any
other Office application.

Any help is appreciated!!

Jerry

Try running Detect and Repair from the Help menu. You'll need to have your
Office CD handy.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried the Detect and Repair...no joy. Any
other suggestions?

Thanks,
Jerry

This is kind of a long shot, but have you tried resetting your Menu Bar?

OK, two more -- try them one at a time:

1) Find and rename or delete the outcmd.dat file...this file holds toolbar
customizations and could possibly cause your menu commands not to work
properly if it has been corrupted. Unfortunately, all toolbar
customizations are lost if you let Outlook create a new outcmd.dat file, so
if you rename the old one instead of deleting it, you can always restore if
if the menu issue isn't fixed.

2) Try running the Inbox Repair Tool against your .PST file to see if it
finds any errors. Search your drive for a file called scanpst.exe and run
it.

Thanks Jocelyn....

I did as you suggested...still no joy.

Scanpst.exe did find minor problems and indicated Repair was optional. I
repaired anyway.

Any other suggestions?

Jerry

The last one I can think of (for now, anyway) is to create a new mail
profile. Do it from scratch, don't copy the original. You won't lose any
data; you just need to attach your .PST file to the new profile.

Thanks for trying. That didn't work either. Could this be some sort of
Permissions problem or registry entry?

Anyway, thanks and let me know if anything comes to mind.

Unfortunately I'm out of ideas...sorry. You might want to try searching
Google Groups to see if anyone else has had the same problem...perhaps there
will be a fix there. If not, it may be worth it to repost your question in
a couple of days so it gets more exposure than it will in this "old" thread,
and make sure you mention all the things you've already tried (whether based
on my suggestions or not). Good luck.
